You want to create a website for your business in Morocco but do not know where to start? Here are the steps to follow, in order, with the options at each step: from free solutions to test an idea up to a professional website designed by an agency.
Step 1: define your website’s goal and audience
Before talking about design, ask yourself two questions: what will the website be for (presenting your business, receiving quote requests, selling online, taking bookings) and who is it for (consumers or businesses, customers in Morocco or abroad, in French, Arabic or English)? The answers determine the type of website, the pages you need and the budget.
Step 2: choose your domain name
The domain name is your website’s address. Choose a short name that is easy to remember and close to your brand. If you mainly target the Moroccan market, the .ma extension shows that your business is rooted in Morocco; .com remains relevant for international customers. .ma names are managed by the ANRT and registered through an approved registrar. Check that the name is available and register it in your own name (not a provider’s). Our free domain name checker tells you in seconds.
Step 3: choose how to build the website
Free or very cheap solutions
Online website builders often have a free plan. It is useful for testing an idea or getting a first online presence, but these plans usually come with limits: an address like “your-name.platform.com”, the platform’s advertising, limited design and SEO, and sometimes difficulty taking your website with you if you switch.
A CMS on your own hosting
A content management system such as WordPress, installed on your hosting with your domain name, gives you more freedom. On the other hand, it takes time and skills to configure, secure and update.
A professional website designed by an agency
An agency handles the design, development, basic SEO and launch, then the follow-up. It is the best option if the website has to bring you customers. As a guide, allow 4,000 to 9,000 MAD for a showcase website and 14,000 to 18,000 MAD for a multi-page or multilingual business website: all the details are in our guide to website costs in Morocco, and our website cost calculator gives you an estimate in a few clicks.
Step 4: hosting and security
Your website must be hosted on a reliable server, with an SSL certificate (the “https” and the padlock in the browser) and regular backups. A slow or frequently unavailable website drives visitors away and hurts your rankings.
Step 5: prepare the content
Write clear text that answers your customers’ questions: what you offer, for whom, where, at what price or how to get a quote. Add real photos of your business and your full contact details. If your customers are bilingual, plan the languages from the start.
Step 6: SEO from launch
A website nobody finds is useless. Take care of every page’s title and description and of mobile loading speed, and create your Google Business Profile to appear on Google Maps. To go further, SEO support helps you climb the rankings over time.
Step 7: measure and keep the website alive
Install an analytics tool (such as Google Analytics) to know where your visitors come from and how many contact you. Update your content and your website regularly: a well-maintained website inspires trust and stays well ranked.
Free website or professional website: which to choose?
A free website can be enough to start. But if your website is to be your main shop window, bring you enquiries and project a professional image, a custom-designed website is a more profitable investment: it will be faster, better ranked and entirely in your name.
