The steps to create a profitable website

A profitable website is planned like a business: with a budget, goals and a way to measure results.

Even a “small” website has costs: building it, hosting it, maintaining it and promoting it. Here are the steps to make sure it pays for itself.

A profitable website is not just a beautiful website: it is one that brings you customers, and whose cost is more than covered by what it earns. That profitability is prepared before anyone talks about design. Here are the steps to build a website that works for your business.

1. Identify your target

Who is your website for: consumers (B2C) or businesses (B2B)? Which age group, which professions, which cities, which languages? The more precise your target, the more relevant your content. Then adapt every page to their needs throughout the project.

2. Set measurable goals

What do you expect from the website: quote requests, calls, online sales, sign-ups? Set a figure (for example a number of enquiries per month). That figure is what will measure the website’s profitability.

3. Analyse your market online

The competition

Is your market lightly or highly competitive online? Identify your competitors and analyse their positioning, their content and their strategy. It will help you build yours and find what sets you apart.

Demand

Estimate the search volume for the keywords that match your business. This estimate helps you judge the market share you can aim for, for example over the first three years, and choose which pages to create first.

4. Choose your domain name

If your company is a brand, use the brand name if it is available. Otherwise, choose a name that is:

For a company focused on the Moroccan market, the .ma extension is a good choice: see our guide to the .ma domain name.

5. Choose your hosting

Before going live, you need a host. Compare prices, but also reliability, security, backups and how responsive the support is. A slow or frequently unavailable website is never profitable. See our guide to web hosting in Morocco.

6. Prepare content that converts

Every page should clearly answer the visitor’s questions: what you offer, for whom, at what price or how to get a quote, and why they should trust you. Add proof (your work, customer reviews, years of experience) and a visible call to action on every page.

7. Think about SEO from the design stage

Page structure, titles, speed, mobile-friendliness: these are planned from the start. A well-ranked website attracts visitors without paying for every click, which greatly improves its profitability.

8. Measure and improve

Install an analytics tool and track your visits, your enquiries and where they come from every month. Compare them with the goals set in step 2 and improve the pages that convert least.

How much to invest?

A website’s budget depends on its type and features: as a guide in Morocco in 2026, 4,000 to 9,000 MAD for a showcase website, 14,000 to 18,000 MAD for a multi-page or multilingual business website, and from 15,000 MAD for an e-commerce website. A website is profitable when what it brings in exceeds that cost: hence the importance of goals and measurement. See our guide to website costs in Morocco.
