Why length is measured in pixels
Google does not cut titles after a fixed number of characters: it cuts them when they no longer fit in the width of the results page. A title full of wide letters (W, M, capitals) is truncated sooner than one with narrow letters. The preview measures the real width of your text in the font used by Google and compares it with the usual limits: about 580 px for the title and 920 px for the description on desktop. These are observed values; Google does not publish official limits.
Writing a title and description that get clicks
- Main keyword first: the beginning of the title is always visible and carries the most weight.
- One page, one title: every page needs its own, unique title.
- A benefit in the description: price, lead time, free quote, guarantee — whatever makes your result stand out.
- No keyword stuffing: write for people; Google may rewrite titles that look artificial.
Google may also choose a different snippet from your page when it considers it more relevant to the search. To check the titles of a live page along with the rest of its SEO, run the SEO analyzer; to control how your page looks when shared on social media, use the Open Graph generator.

Frequently asked questions
How long should a title tag be?
About 580 pixels on desktop, which is often 50 to 60 characters. The tool measures the real width, because wide letters take more space.
Will Google always show my meta description?
No. Google may pick another snippet from the page when it matches the search better. A good description still increases the chance it is used.
Are these limits official?
No. Google does not publish fixed limits; these values are observed on results pages and may change.
